CEMATRIX Releases Q2 Results

CVX:TSX-V

CEMATRIX released its second quarter financial results this morning for the period ending June 30, 2014. Sales increased 10% over last year, reaching $3,070,504 with gross margin also slightly up over the same period year over year. Over the second quarter, the company added $1.3 million of sales orders bringing the annual amount of work under contract for 2014 to $4.5 million.

The six month reporting compared to last year saw net revenue decrease by roughly $1.5 million.  This decrease can be attributed to an extraordinary Q1/13 that saw a number of 2012 projects extended into and completed in the new year.

The release also highlights management’s positive outlook for the rest of 2014, citing anticipated growth in Canadian and U.S. infrastructure sales as well as continued growth in the Western Canada oil and gas sector. In addition to the $4.5 million of work contracted for 2014, numerous other bids have been placed on projects that, if won, will result in additional work to be completed in 2014.

Watching Concrete Dry Has Never Been Better

CVX:TSX-V

This week, a well fed group of engineers and construction industry professionals got to witness CEMATRIX Cellular Concrete in action. On Thursday (June 26th) Lafarge and CEMATRIX co-hosted a BBQ lunch & learn on Lafarge’s new property in Southeast Calgary for a group of about 40 engineers and construction industry professionals. Doug Lavis, Business Development with CEMATRIX, provided an in depth explanation of the production and various applications for Cellular Concrete and the many benefits the construction material has.

Doug Lavis fielding technical
questions prior to the demonstration
After Doug’s presentation and a number of technical questions, the group donned all of the appropriate personal protective equipment and walked over to the worksite where a base slab was being poured for a new building. The group intently watched as a concrete slab was poured and began to dry. After the demonstration was complete, many of the attendees  stayed to ask questions as to how this product might work in a variety of applications. Each attendee was given a hockey puck sized piece of cellular concrete as a memento of the demonstration.

CEMATRIX has been diligently working towards mass industry acceptance as a preferred supplier and has been submitting proposals on projects across North America.

The demonstration proved to be an effective education tool, supporting the work to gain mass acceptance. Attendees left with a greater understanding of Cellular Concrete and how it can have a positive impact on a variety of projects that are currently underway or in the design phase.

CEMATRIX President/CEO Announces $1.0 Million Infrastructure Project & Provides Update To HG

CEMATRIX Corporation
CVX – TSX Venture
Shares Issued: 33.4 million
Fully Diluted: 36.7 million
*******************************

CEMATRIX announced this morning that it has booked another $1.0 million in project work for the year, bringing the 2013 total to $9.3 million to date. According to the news release, the new contract is for an infrastructure related project, set to begin in the spring of 2014.

This morning, we spoke with CEMATRIX President and CEO, Jeff Kendrick, who said that this new contract represents the fifth significant project in Manitoba that has been specified for cellular concrete. Mr. Kendrick stated that he feels this confirms CEMATRIX is achieving a broader market acceptance in this region, as it relates to lightweight engineered fill behind bridge abutments and MSE panels.

CEMATRIX continues to work towards achieving a broader level of acceptance in other provinces as well, particularly in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. CEMATRIX’s cellular concrete is now on the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario’s approved product list for various applications. Since making the list in 2012, CEMATRIX completed its first successful bridge abutment in the fall of 2012 and is currently completing its first MSE panel job at a large ongoing project in the Windsor area.

According to Mr. Kendrick, it is the primary goal of CEMATRIX to achieve a more broad market acceptance, for this application and others, over the next few years, a goal he and the team at CEMATRIX get closer and closer to achieving with each new work contract announced.

CEMATRIX Adds Another $1.9 Million To The Books

CEMATRIX Corporation
CVX – TSX Venture
Shares Issued: 33.4 million
Fully Diluted: 36.7 million
*******************************

Earlier today, CEMATRIX announced the addition of $1.9 million in contracts, which brings this year’s total contracted work to $8.3 million. According to the news release, $1.35 million of the contracted work is for an infrastructure project in Ontario, a portion of which will be completed in the New Year.

The latest announcement comes as welcome news, as typically the third quarter is a quieter time of year on the sales front for CEMATRIX, given the seasonal nature of the business.

In today’s news release, President and CEO of Cematrix, Jeff Kendrick, states, “The growth CEMATRIX is achieving in the infrastructure market, especially in Eastern Canada, is a testament to our many years of dedication, proving our unique product is moving towards broad market acceptance for various infrastructure type applications across the country.”

The Company has made considerable strides in gaining market acceptance over the past five years, which is a common challenge facing unique and lesser known products. In 2008, infrastructure projects contributed to only 28% of CEMATRIX’s annual revenues. By contrast, infrastructure projects to date this year contribute to over 90%.

CEMATRIX Reports Six Month Sales & Earnings Records; Plus $1.1 Million In Additional Contracts

CEMATRIX Corporation
CVX – TSX Venture
Shares Issued: 33.4 million
Fully Diluted: 36.7 million *******************************

Earlier today, CEMATRIX announced that it set new sales and earnings records for the first half of 2013.

Overall for the second quarter, which ended on June 30, 2013, the company registered just over $2.79 million in sales, and for the first half of the year it generated just over $4.78 million. This is up 47% from last year’s six month total of $3.23 million.

Also, CEMATRIX reported second quarter earnings of $101,110 which, when reduced by the first quarter's loss of $5,255, results in record profits for the first six months of $95,855.

In the news release, the company attributes both the record sales and profits to a significant increase in off season infrastructure work, mainly in southwestern Ontario.

Additionally, CEMATRIX has confirmed $1.1 million of new sales orders, bringing the total amount of contracted work scheduled in 2013 to $6.4 million.

While it has numerous bids out on a number of projects, management, of course, is hopeful it will score a sufficient number to make for a record year.

CEMATRIX Wins Accolades From Ontario’s Ministry Of Transportation

CEMATRIX Corporation
CVX – TSX Venture
Shares Issued: 33.4 million
Fully Diluted: 36.7 million *******************************

After fourteen years of building industry relationships and raising awareness of its cellular concrete product, CEMATRIX has been enjoying a steady increase in acceptance and specification by engineering firms. An example of this was recently highlighted in an article titled, “A Little Lightweight Lift”, which was featured this past fall in Road Talk, a monthly digest published by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.

The article was written by Mr. Ken Ahmad and Mr. Tae C. Kim, both foundation engineers, and summarizes their study of the ministry’s trial use of CEMATRIX’s cellular concrete product. The lightweight material was selected in order to correct significant settlement issues with the Nepewassi River Bridge, a sixty-four year old bridge located in the Township of Dunnet, Ontario.

The article states that since the project was a trial on the west half of the bridge, it involved extensive instrumentation, as well as a monitoring program. Due to the project’s success, Mr. Ahmad and Mr. Kim state that the ministry expects to use cellular concrete for further ministry projects that involve stability and settlement issues. This is of particular interest, as CEMATRIX is the only company in Canada approved to produce cellular concrete for a number of Ministries of Transportation, including the province of Ontario.

Based upon the foundation engineers’ studies, they also comment that:
  • Cellular concrete proved to be up to 27% more cost effective than rigid expanded polystyrene, the lightweight material typically used to reduce vertical stress and settlement.
  • Cellular concrete poses no concern for placement damage, as it can be poured directly onto the excavated sub-grade and will set overnight.
  • Cellular concrete does not require a protective coating since the material is not susceptible to UV rays or hydrocarbon deterioration.

CEMATRIX Pours Record Year In 2012

CEMATRIX Corporation
CVX - TSX Venture
Shares issued: 33.4 million
Fully diluted: 36.7 million
-------------------------------------------

CEMATRIX today reported its best year on record with 2012 sales of $8.5 million and $857 in net earnings or 2.5 cents per share.  The company signed $12.4 million in contracts last year with $3.9 million being carried into this year.
A large part of the company’s efforts to diversify its business post-2008  paid dividends, as 70% of sales are now infrastructure related, with 30% from the energy sector.

CEMATRIX is projecting 2013 sales will be in the range of $10 million.

Contributing to 2012 earnings was a non-cash deferred tax recovery of $700 thousand to reflect expectations that future profitability will allow CVX to use certain tax loss carry forwards.
The company also closed the year in fine fashion, as Q4/2012 saw sales of $2.94 million and operating income of $357 thousand versus Q4/2011 with $1.17 million in sales and just over twelve hundred dollars in operating income.
