More Gluten-Free Cakes and Vegetarian Pies

Hope and appetites spring eternal with the scent of freshly-baked bread or cinnamon buns.
And so it is with the smells and hopes generated out of a commercial kitchen serving 11 organic and natural food stores, all nestled in one of the richest organic retail areas of the United States – near the city of Scarsdale, Connecticut, a relatively short train ride north of New York City.
That’s where one of Planet Organic Health Corporation’s (POH) biggest divisions – Mrs. Green’s Natural Markets – is located. It is in the final planning stages for a huge, 30,000-sq.-ft. commercial kitchen or commissary, that will house 40 employees and churn out everything from gluten-free bakery products to full-course, ready-to-go vegetarian meals, to freshly-squeezd organic vegetable juices.
Harold and June Hochberger created the chain. It was purchased by POH early this fiscal year, which for POH ends June 30th, and it is still run by the husband and wife team. The current commissary is just 3,000 sq. ft. and is located under one of the 11 Mrs. Green’s stores.
Moving into a space that is modern, 10 times larger and above ground is not only appealing for employees but also holds the promise of creating many more products to serve the insatiable deli food demand there.
